Clive,
Greetings and salutations; I was wondering what was happening with you. I
promise to answer this e-mail that you sent. I am spearheading the DCN
booth at the Whole Earth Festival on the University of California campus.
This festival has its roots back to the 60's, the era of the flower children
and the hippies. It has all types of "earthy" goods and home-brewed or
grown technology. It is this weekend and DVM is playing a major part in
making the booth possible.
I really want to use your piece about the origins of your name -- especially
since it was used on ST ds9.
I was very surprised to read the line about your son. I thought you were a
bachelor of the first order -- getting a strong right arm (or left arm)
hoisting tankards at the pub and tossing darts. Actually, I think you said
you even participated in lawn bowling (the name eludes me, I just know if is
an exhibition sport for the summer Olympics).
I am really glad to read that you enjoyed ST ds9 this season. To even make
it more apparent that this is the "make or break it" season, they are really
playing up the last 4 episodes of this season. The last episode was
interesting in that it was a re-visit to the parallel universe from TOS. I
think that the ending was done purely for the cheap emotional effects. I
think that this was a cowardly way to handle this situation by the producers
-- if not fiscally expedient. I think that once again Colm Meaney showed of
what he was capable, since his character is very different from what it was
originally in the parallel universe and a little different from his ds9
character.
As for ST ds9 and SFX, I thought that Karen Levell did an adequate job of
reviewing my favorite episode of the year, "The Visitor," but I think that
she missed the significance of this episode as being something different
from the usual Trek formula.
This last episode of B5 was disappointing and I will wait to send it to you
with this weekend's episode, instead of putting together a compilation of
all the week's other Sci-Fi episodes. It guest starred Michael York as once
again, a reincarnated King Arthurian character. He was much better at it in
B5, than when he was in William Shatner's Tek War series as the
re-incarnated Mordred. The first time ever, I was able to piece together
the entire plotline of a JMS story within the first 10 minutes. This was
just a filler -- not really important to the ARC. JMS must have been tired
and needed a break...
I wish you a great rest of the week and weekend -- appreciate all your
efforts at getting the Bristol postcards for your fanclub website.
